Gardening For Everyone

WSU Lewis County Extension Master Gardeners are proud to present free to the community Gardening For Everyone. Gardening For Everyone is held twice a year once in the Spring and again in the Fall. The six workshops at each event are free to public. We can do this because of the generous support of our Spring Plant Sale.

The Spring 2025 Gardening For Everyone will be held at Centralia Community College at Washington Hall on April 12, 2025.

The workshops being offered at our Spring GFE are as follows: 9:00- 10:30

Maddie Wilcox, Lewis Conservation District & Danielle Green from Lewis County Noxious Weeds- Creating Rain Gardens & Weed Management Strategies for the Backyard Landscape. Their talking points are: Making the most of PNW weather by using native plants to create a “rain loving” garden spaces. Learn strategies for controlling weedy pests in the home garden and backyard areas. Get tips on identifying the right and wrong plants for your urban landscape.

Heidi MacDonald -Edible Miro-greens. Talking points are: What are they, How to grow them,, and How to Enjoy them.

Bri Price – Attracting & Hosting Pollinators o f the Pacific Northwest. Talking points are: Overview of Pollinator Diversity. The Washington State Bee Atlas, and Tips of Habitat Management.

Rose Care and Pruning with LaVeta Arnold. Talking points are: Types of Roses, Treating insects and disease without harmful pesticides, protecting pollinators an beneficial insects, when and how to fertilize, and prune for healthy plants.

Thyra McKelvie -Mason Cutter Bees. Learn how to help Mason Bees, and Cutter Bees Thrive. Talking points are: Creating a Healthy Habitat for Mason Bees, Mason Bee predators and How to and how to protect against them and Meet the Leaf Cutter Bees.

Judy Masura – Succulents and Seedums. Talking points are: Definitions, Growing, and Examples.

During Gardening for Everyone we offer a free Plant Clinic where we can help attendees solve their gardening mysteries. If you are bring an insect please have it in a clear plastic bottle.

In the lobby we have several local vendors. This is just one example of what you might see. This is a picture of the what the WSU Extension Master Gardener Craft Committee had for sale.

Grapes for Sale: There will be 16 1-year-old grape plants in gallon pots – 4 Interlaken, 4 Einset, 4 Canadice, and 4 Reliance.

Micro Greens – Learn about fresh nutritious Micro Greens, grown by local business owner Hiedi MacDonald.  Free Micro Greens samples will be at her table while they last.

PNW Pollinators – Drop by the pollinator table to learn about PNW pollinators and how you can encourage them into your backyard. Also learn more about Mason Bees and Leaf Cutter bees and how you can protect them.

Master Gardeners – Please stop by the Master Gardener table for free information about how you can become a Master Gardener or get a Certification Certificate showing you have completed the course.  Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions.
